What Is a Sewer Scope Inspection?
You may have heard about sewer scope inspections, but what is a sewer scope inspection?
You may have heard about sewer scope inspections, especially if you’re considering purchasing a home or commercial building in Wyoming. You may have also come across references to sewer scope inspections if you have been researching plumbing problems like slow, gurgling, or smelly drains. But what is a sewer scope inspection?
A sewer scope inspection is a specialized, visual inspection of the inside of the sewer line from the house or building to the municipal sewer connection or septic system. A sewer scope inspection is performed by feeding a waterproof camera mounted on a long cable through the sewer line. The camera is connected to a video monitor with recording capabilities, and is equipped with LED lights around the camera to illuminate the inside of the sewer pipe.
Sewer scope inspections are performed by home or commercial property inspectors and plumbers as a means of identifying any current or potential problems with a sewer line. This benefits current property owners by allowing a non-destructive and inexpensive inspection rather than needing to dig up the yard, sidewalks, or driveways to inspect the sewer line. A sewer scope inspection also benefits home and commercial property buyers by providing an inexpensive and non-destructive option for inspecting the condition of the sewer pipes.

Sewer pipe repairs are incredibly expensive because it requires considerable work to dig up a sewer line. Oftentimes sidewalks, driveways, trees, and landscape features are above the sewer line and these must also be removed or disturbed. Since sewer line repairs cost thousands of dollars, spending a few hundred dollars on a sewer scope inspection is a good investment. Opting for a sewer scope inspection as part of a home or commercial property inspection lowers the price further and provides and even greater return on your investment.
